Tsopk region, the 18th century

Lavash is baked from wheat flour (in the past, also, from a special kind of barley flour) in traditional underground ovens, called "tandoor" . Traditionally, lavash dough is kneaded by the oldest woman in the family. On November 26 of 2014,  the ninth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritageby UNESCO decided to include lavash in the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Armenia.
